To enhance disciplinary development and implement internationalisation strategies, Professor Xinming YE, Dean of the School of Sports Science and Engineering, recently led a delegation to visit the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Sports Science and Technology Institute. This visit aimed to deepen collaboration between the two institutions in cutting-edge fields such as sports science, sports rehabilitation, and health management, while jointly exploring new models for talent cultivation and scientific innovation.

During the visit, the delegation held productive discussions with Professor Ming ZHANG, Director of the Sports Science and Technology Institute of PolyU, and his team. Both parties engaged in in-depth exchanges on core topics including talent development, research collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, and community service. They reached several significant points of agreement, laying a solid foundation for future substantive cooperation.

Both parties plan to launch a joint postgraduate training programme focusing on sports rehabilitation and health management. Through mechanisms such as co-developed curricula, mutual recognition of credits, and resource sharing, a multi-tiered, interdisciplinary collaborative training system will be established. Concurrently, to broaden students' international perspectives, the School will select outstanding students to participate in short-term exchange programmes in Hong Kong. These include summer research placements, scientific practice opportunities, and high-level academic seminars, with the aim of enhancing students' international competitiveness.

Both sides have reached a preliminary agreement to establish a joint research team and collaborate on scientific projects, with a particular focus on advancing the development of the Sports Health Laboratory. Leveraging the School of Sports Science and Technology's expertise in sports science and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Sports Science and Technology Research Institute's leading technological capabilities in biomedical engineering, we shall pool resources to create a world-class sports science research platform. Together, we will drive fundamental breakthroughs in areas such as sports health monitoring and rehabilitation technology innovation.

To foster faculty exchange and knowledge sharing, the School will regularly select outstanding young academics for academic visits and collaborative research at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Sports Science and Technology Institute, enabling them to gain in-depth insights into its advanced expertise in sports science and technology. Concurrently, PolyU will dispatch specialists to deliver academic lectures and teaching sessions at our institution, thereby ing profound integration of pedagogical philosophies and research methodologies between both parties.

In response to society's pressing demand for high-calibre sports rehabilitation professionals, both parties explored collaborative solutions. They plan to leverage their respective strengths to jointly advance the refinement of the sports rehabilitation professional training system and the effective translation of research findings into practical applications. This initiative aims to deliver high-level rehabilitation services to society and actively contribute to the development of the Healthy China initiative.

Notably, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University secured a commendable 57th place in the 2025 QS World University Rankings. Its globally renowned programme in Sports Physiotherapy, coupled with the recent establishment of a Master's degree in Sports Science and Management, aligns exceptionally well with our institute's collaborative focus. This convergence provides a robust academic foundation and promising prospects for mutual cooperation.

Additionally, the delegation visited the Doctors Think Tank Academy and the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong during their visit. They engaged in constructive discussions with the heads of these institutions regarding potential academic collaborations, joint research projects, and talent exchange programmes, thereby opening new avenues for future multi-dimensional and broad-based cooperation.

The School of Sports Science and Engineering will persistently uphold the developmental philosophy of ‘focus, interdisciplinary collaboration, partnership, and application’. It will actively expand international exchange channels, deepen substantive research and teaching collaborations, and dedicate itself to cultivating high-calibre sports science professionals with a global perspective. The school will contribute to advancing the university's internationalisation and strengthening the development of sport disciplines.
